Skin Patch testing
(allergic contact dermatitis)

Skin patch testing is used to identify whether a patient has allergic contact dermatitis. Plastic chambers with specific allergens are applied to the patient’s back, typically on a Monday, and must be worn for five days. The patient will need to visit the practice on Wednesday and Friday in the same week to read the results. The European standard series test of 45 allergens will diagnose 80% of all allergic contact dermatitis.
