Dermal fillers
When we are young, our skin has abundant collagen and appears smooth and wrinkle-free. However, as skin ages and loses its elasticity, the skin stops springing back to its line-free state. These grooves become permanently imprinted on the face as wrinkles and fine lines. For those looking to rejuvenate their skin and attain a more youthful appearance, dermal fillers may be the ideal solution.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid and are injected beneath the surface of the skin to add fullness and volume. They are used to smooth out facial creases and lines in order to minimize the signs of ageing. There are two ways in which dermal fillers are used. #1: Superficial dermal fillers are injected just beneath the surface of the skin in the intradermal layers to improve fine lines, wrinkles and skin quality. This type of filler injection is also used on other body parts such as the neck, décolletage, and hands to rejuvenate ageing skin. #2: Deeper injections of dermal fillers are used to augment bone and volume loss in the subcutaneous tissues and fat pads. This type of filler injection is used to enhance and augment facial features.

Dermal filler procedure: What to expect
We first start off with a consultation, during which Dr Naidoo will meet with you to discuss your concerns and goals. During your consultation, Dr Naidoo will evaluate your area of concern, review your medical history and determine if fillers are suitable for your skin. You will be given a treatment plan and quotation.
Just before the actual treatment, the area will be cleaned, and you may be given a topical anaesthetic to numb the area. Dr Naidoo will then inject a precise amount of filler strategically beneath the skin. Some patients experience mild bruising and swelling afterwards, but these are temporary and should subside a few days after treatment.
